1. Is My Wedding Date Available?
Okay, so you’ve picked the perfect wedding date, but here’s the thing – that musician or DJ you’re eyeing? They might already be booked up! I get requests sometimes a year or even two in advance, so if you’ve got your heart set on someone, don’t wait too long to reach out. You can usually put down a deposit to lock in your big day. Trust me, the sooner the better!
2. Can I Hear You Before I Book You?
I totally get it – booking a wedding entertainer is a big deal! And while it’s so flattering when people want to book me just based on word-of-mouth, I always tell them to check out my social media or website first. It’s important to hear or see the musician live before committing. If you're set on someone specific, ask if they're playing anywhere soon – maybe at a local venue or wedding fair. You’ll get a real sense of their vibe and the atmosphere they’ll be able to create for you.
3. Do You Offer Any Packages?
Most musicians, like me, have some pretty great packages for couples. For example, my most popular packages is called ‘The Welcome’. It's a deal where I perform at both the ceremony and the drinks reception – way cheaper than booking each separately. It’s a great way to save a little extra cash, so don’t forget to ask about discounts or bundled deals if you’re booking multiple packages throughout the day!
4. How Would You Describe Your Style?
You’ve probably already checked out the musician’s style and you like it – that’s why you’re thinking about booking them, right? But here’s the thing: make sure they’re on board with the vibe you want for your big day. For example, you might want a harpist to play a Bruno Mars song, but if they’re all about traditional tunes, that could be a problem! Make sure you ask about their song list and whether they can play a range of genres.
5. Are You Willing to Learn New Songs?
Some musicians (like me!) will happily take a few song requests from couples. I limit it to about five free requests, though – it's usually songs that are special to the couple, like an aisle song or a meaningful tune. But heads up – some musicians will charge extra for learning new songs outside of their usual setlist. Always check up front to make sure you're on the same page and there won’t be any surprise fees popping up!
